Important Changes in CBSE Class 12 Exam Pattern 2026
As per the new circular, CBSE class 12 syllabuswill not be reduced this year. In AY 2025-26, there will be around 25-27 questions in Science subjects i.e. Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. The detailed changes are as follows:
- Multiple Choice Questions in English Language and Literature: In English Language & Literature, there will be multiple choice questions, fill in the blanks and synonym/antonym from unseen passages.
- Assertion and Reason Based Questions in Biology: The board has eliminated the multiple-choice questions from Biology and has framed assertion and reason-based questions. There will be around 5 one-mark questions but it will be more of descriptive nature. Candidates are suggested not to write answers of one word form in Biology.
CBSE Class 12 Chemistry Deleted Syllabus 2026-27
The CBSE Class 12 Chemistry Deleted Syllabus 2026–27 includes the removal of several chapters and topics from both Organic and Physical Chemistry to reduce the academic load on students. As per the latest CBSE curriculum, complete chapters like Surface Chemistry, Polymers, p-Block Elements, Chemistry in Everyday Life, and General Principles and Processes of Isolation of Elements have been deleted.
Additionally, Organic Compounds Containing Nitrogen has been renamed as Amines (Unit 9), and topics such as Cyanides and Isocyanides have been removed from the syllabus. With these changes, CBSE has shifted focus towards high-scoring and conceptually important units like Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Coordination Compounds, Haloalkanes and Haloarenes, Alcohols Phenols and Ethers, helping students prepare more effectively for CBSE Class 12 Board Exams 2026.
